Abstract:
The Nanling forest district suffered large ice damages in the winter of 2008, which further destroyed the forest ecosystem in this region. After this ice damage, several restoration measures e.g., cleaning litter, were carried out. Results of this study indicated that stands and biodiversity in the study region were partly restored after restoration stage of 3 years. These phenomena could be explained as follows. Forest gaps, formed by ice damages, improved structures of stand and made kinds of plants growing. Finally, the forest ecosystem was restored and reestablished. The biodiversity was more abundant after ice damage than that before ice damage. Population number and population density in this region were increased by 57.13% and 30.77%, respectively, when compared to that before ice damage. Thus, this study shows although ice damage would have serious influences on forest ecosystems, they could also be restored when suitable measures were performed.
