Abstract:
In order to explore the phenotypic differentiation degree and variation pattern of the natural plant species with extremely small population (PSESP) Horsfieldia tetratepala, this study investigated the phenotypic traits across 12 natural populations of H. tetratepala, utilized ANOVA, multiple comparisons, correlation anal-ysis, and cluster analysis to examine 10 phenotypic characters of leaves and fruits, and its correlation with geographical and environmental factors was also analyzed. The results showed that all 10 phenotypic traits exhibited extremely significant differences among the 12 populations (P<0. 01), with coefficients of variation of 3. 36%-23. 63%, indicating that H. tetratepala was characterized by substantial phenotypic diversity. Compared with leaf traits, seed and fruit traits exhibited lower variation coefficients and greater stability. Correlation analysis revealed that the number of lateral veins was significantly negatively correlated (P<0. 01) with the longitudinal and transverse diameters of fruits. Additionally, the leaf length was significantly positively correlated (P<0. 05) with the leaf width and extremely significantly positively correlated (P<0. 01) with the basal width distance. The fruit longitudinal diameter was extremely significantly positively correlated with the fruit transverse diameter, and significantly positively correlated with the seed longitudinal diameter. The fruit transverse diameter was significantly positively correlated with both the longitudinal and transverse diameter of seeds. In the investigation zone, none of the phenotypic traits exhibited a significant correlation with altitude. The number of leaf lateral veins showed a positive correlation with longitude and a negative correlation with latitude. Additionally, both longitudinal and transverse diameters of fruits exhibited an inverse relationship with longitude and a direct relationship with latitude. When the Euclidean distance was set to 5. 0, the 12 natural populations were classified into three distinct clusters. The research indicates that the leaf and fruit phenotypic traits of the H. tetratepala population exhibit rich diversity and are significantly correlated with geographical factors.
