Abstract: |
To investigate activity patterns and habitat suitability of Viverricula indica for developing scientific conservation strategies, this study deployed camera traps in the Baixi Provincial Nature Reserve in Zijin county, Guangdong from July 2020 to August 2022. The study analyzed habitat distribution, daily activity rhythms,
and spatiotemporal relationships with anthropogenic disturbance using overlap indices. A total of 75 infrared
cameras were deployed across 51 grids, with accumulated effective working days of 26 500, capturing a total
of 39 081 valid photos. Among these, the V. indica was detected 86 times within 8 grids. The results showed that the activity pattern of the V. indica in the Baixi Reserve is strictly nocturnal, with a single peak in the daily
activity curve occurring between 22:00 and 1:00. The V. indica exhibited low spatial overlap with anthropogenic
disturbance (IO
= 0. 11) and demonstrated significant temporal avoidance (temporal overlap coefficient Δ = 0. 10,
P<0. 01), suggesting that anthropogenic disturbance may be a key factor influencing its spatiotemporal distribution patterns. In terms of habitat selection, V. indica preferred broadleaf forest environments with low anthropogenic disturbance intensity and a high canopy coverage (≥0. 5). |
