Introducing Trial of Different Pterocarpus macrocarpus Provenance in Low Altitude Mountainous Areas of Southern Fujian

Abstract:
An introducing trial of Pterocarpus macrocarpus provenances was established in low altitude mountainous areas of southern Fujian. Investigated and analysed the tree growth traits and wood properties of different provenances at 10 years old. At the same time, planting density test was carried out in combination with introduction. The results showed that there was no significant difference in tree survival rate among different provenances, of which the survival rate of No.3 provenance was the highest, about 81.2% and the survival rate of No.6 was the lowest-only 70%. The No. 2 and No. 3 provenances grew rapidly, while the No. 1 provenance with better growth in the early stage, slowed down in the later stage. The tree height, DBH and volume were lower than those of No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 provenance; There was no significant difference in air dry density and water content among different provenances, but wood swelling efficacy of the No. 2 provenance was significantly higher than the other five provenances. The wood strength of the No. 2 and No. 3 provenances is high. Based on the comprehensive analysis on survival rate, growth and wood properties, the No. 2 and No. 3 provenances are relatively more suitable to plant in the southern part of Fujian.
