Investigations of natural enemies in China of Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle and observations on predating of the predatory natural enemy
Liang Yi-Ping
Abstract:
Investigations to find out natural enemies of Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle were carried out during the months of September through December 2009, basing on two species of Eucalyptus exserta and Eucalyptus grandis × E. tereticornis DH201-2 from College of Forestry, South China Agricultural University, and three methods of collecting insects emerged from Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle galls, dissecting galls and eye-searching in the forests. Three kinds of spider species are discovered to be predatory natural enemies of Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle, which are Carrhotus coronatus, Oxyopes sertatus L. Koch and Cyrtarachne sp., of which Carrhotus coronatus is predominant species. The observations on Carrhotus coronatus predating both in the field and within test tube show that an individual Carrhotus coronatus predates Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle 4.8head/h in the field and 0.36head/h within test tube. This is the first report of predatory natural enemy of Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle in China. There is not parasitical natural enemy found in this study.
